Current Remodeling and Home Construction Status
Sales Coordinator Deb Simons, Design Manager Ricardo Almanza, and Owner Marty Morse display the new face masks our team wears during the current SIP order at the Morse Design Center. Morse Custom Homes and Remodeling (MCHR) has been proactive during the SIP as an essential business. We have been working hard to make sure our staff, clients, friends and partners remain healthy during the Covid-19 outbreak. Our team continues to practice social distancing guidelines set forth by the CDC and we also disinfect common surfaces in our design center throughout the day.
Design Manager, Ricardo and Lead Carpenter, Ron review our custom cabinet designs for an upcoming installation for one of our custom design-build projects. Additionally, the MCHR production staff continues to work on our essential housing construction sites throughout our County. Our Project Managers and Carpenters practice social distancing and wear masks when appropriate while performing work-related duties. Building Inspectors are performing virtual and site inspections at our active construction projects and we are progressing with our production work to accommodate the needs and desires of our clients.
Marty and Deb conducting their first virtual meeting at the Morse Design Center last month. We are working on future home renovation projects in our design department and are preparing our design plans for construction drawing submittals to the proper Building Departments. Building permit applications for non-essential projects are now being accepted by Yolo County and the City of Davis beginning May 4th. Building permits for all construction projects will be released for work to commence on projects within Yolo County If you have been thinking about renovating, adding additional space, or building a secondary dwelling unit on your property, we are here for you. Yolo County Health Order Information
Released 4/30/2020
Yolo County will extend the countywide health order for residents to shelter in place through May 31. This aligns with the extension timelines of neighboring counties and what is permissible and required under the State Shelter in Place Order, which both informs and limits what the County and residents can do. In addition, the health order is intended to continue to slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Under the extension, Yolo County is allowing the following activities to resume, effective May 4th, that have been assessed as low risk for the spread of COVID-19 and are consistent with the State Order, as long as they 1) follow guidelines from the County and its partners and 2) adhere to strict social distancing protocols: ALL CONSTRUCTION Effective May 4, 2020, construction allowed under the State Orders, as may be revised from time to time, including but not limited to the construction, operation, inspection, and maintenance of construction sites and construction projects (including housing construction), as well as surveyors, inspectors, and other workers conducting site investigations. All construction work shall be subject to maximum compliance with Social Distancing Requirements and any industry-specific guidance issued by the Health Officer related to COVID-19. A copy of the completed Social distancing protocol worksheet shall be posted at an entry (or similar prominent location).

The Bedroom Makeover
Before: Existing ceiling was dark and non-reflective. Flooring was ready for an upgrade. Poor lighting throughout.
After: Boxed and painted beams and ceiling reflect natural light. New LED strip lights mounted on top of the beams provide indirect lighting throughout the bedroom. New trim, wall paint, windows and flooring give this bedroom a fresh and bright new décor.
Nook and Patio Addition with New Trellis
Before: Original trellis was rotting and did not provide enough west facing shade for the home. The original brick fireplace was not desired and the patio deck was small and at grade with little connection to the home.
Design: A small eating nook addition adjacent to the renovated kitchen provided a desirable space to eat meals and access the new elevated redwood deck. A covered porch was added with access from the dining room and nook. A new redwood trellis was designed to adequately shade the home and windows from the intense summer sun.
During: The fireplace chimney, siding, decking, windows, and walls were removed to prepare the exterior for the new addition and deck. A stem wall footing was added to the perimeter of the deck for structural purposes, and also provide a continuous concrete step/seat along the deck.
After 1: New windows, sliding glass doors, nook, deck, and trellis create an inviting patio space and elevated deck overlooking the soon to be renovated backyard.
After 2: New covered porch and sliding glass door to the dining room. As the western sun sets, the 2x2 redwood trellis members shade the west facing wall and windows. Design, Build, and Enjoy!
